Do I need vaccinations?

job openings korea
This is completely up to you. There are no required vaccinations for South Korea. If you decide to travel to places like Vietnam, Thailand or Cambodia on vacation during your stay in Korea as an ESL teacher, we suggest you have the necessary vaccinations. Before leaving for Korea, it is recommended that you consult with your doctor regarding this matter. For more details on required vaccinations visit the following website: www.mdtravelhealth.com

How much does medical insurance cost?

job openings in korea
As it is stated in the job description for teaching English as a second language, the school will cover 50% of your health insurance. Normally, this costs you no more than $20 per month or 2% of your monthly salary for health insurance. This will cover all basic medical needs. Please note: In order to obtain your medical insurance coverage for teaching English overseas in Korea, you first need to receive your foreign registration card. This can take up to 1 month after your arrival. It is suggested that you take out a one month travel insurance policy to cover you until your Korean medical insurance comes into effect.

What is healthcare like in Korea?

teach in korea
The quality of healthcare in Korea is on a par with North America, as doctors study in English and medical schooling is excellent. Hospitals, clinics and medical offices are all very fast and efficient. We also recommend talking to other teachers in your area as they will probably be able to recommend a good doctor or dentist.

What if I need dental work?

Dentists in Korea are expensive so we suggest having your annual check-up and any work done prior to leaving for Korea. If you do need to see a dentist, speak with a teacher at your school to find the best one in your area.

Can I get specific medications at pharmacies?

employment Korea
The pharmacies sell a variety of drugs over the counter. However, if you are on specific medication that needs to be taken on a regular basis, we suggest you bring a 1 year supply. If you are on the birth control pill, we also suggest you bring a 1 year supply as your specific brand may not be available in Korea.

Where can I find english speaking doctors?

Remember if you get sick you can always ask your director to take you the clinic near your school.

Health care in Seoul is very inexpensive and available to everyone. The physicians are qualified, the clinics are clean and the staff are professional. Most doctors speak some English. The average clinic visit and/or hospital visit in Seoul is pretty inexpensive compared to American clinic and/or hospital visits:
