Will I have free time to travel?

teaching english in korea
You will have time to travel when you teach in Korea, as South Korea has many national holidays. If you have a English teaching job in a private school, you will get approximately 10 days vacation and all your weekends. Korea is a very small country so a weekend is more than enough time to visit other parts of the country. Many teachers enjoy weekend getaways within Korea. During your vacation time, overseas traveling is popular among those who teach abroad. If you require more travel time, public schools do offer over 3 weeks vacation time.

Where can I go?

Countries like China, Japan, Hong Kong are a quick few hours away and can be easily visited on long weekends or during your vacation time. We also recommend visiting countries like Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore. Many of the travel agencies in Korea offer vacation packages to other Asian destinations at a reasonable price. If you only have a short period of time to travel, we suggest you do it this way. It also may be cheaper and a good way to meet other ESL teachers.

Where can I arrange my travel?

There are many English-speaking travel agencies that specialize in travel for foreigners. We would suggest asking other South Korea English teachers for recommendations. Another place to find travel agents or deals is in the Korean Herald or the Korean Times. There are various travel agencies in Itaewon (Seoul) who cater specifically to the foreign community. Some of the more popular agencies are:
Xanadu Travel
WOW Corea
