Salary & Benefits
 
A standard contract for a teaching job in South Korea includes the following although specifics may vary slightly in teaching jobs from school to school.

Salary range: 1,900,000 - 2, 300,000 Korean Won (approx USD 2000-2300) monthly based on qualifications and experience.
  • About 30 teaching hours per week
  • Severance Pay - One month salary bonus upon completion of one year contract
  • Round trip airfare provided
  • Furnished apartment provided
  • Full Medical coverage, 50% paid by employer
  • Taxes 4-7% of salary
  • Vacation: Usually one week in the summer and one week in the winter plus all national holidays. (This may vary depending on the school)
 
Canadians and Americans may be able to apply to have the Korean tax refunded.
 
What is Severance Pay?

Upon completion of a one-year contract, the teacher will receive as a bonus, one month's pay that is based on the average gross salary of the previous twelve months. If the teacher decides to sign on and extend his/her contract with their ESL teacher placement, the bonus shall be paid out at the end of the new contract along with the bonus for the second year. All teachers are given the option to extend their contracts working abroad beyond one year or sign a long-term deal. All Korean schools have severance packages.
